Colon Classification


This system of classification uses specific punctuation marks to denote particular characteristic of the work to be classified. There are 42 different classes that are arranged alphabetically and combined with punctuation marks, letters and numbers to sort publications. It takes into account 5 different categories or facets of a work:

  1. , personality
  2. ; matter or property
  3. : energy
  4. . space
  5. ' time

Each of these 5 categories are then further elaborated upon, by means of the 42 classes.
